The Detroit-Windsor Drive have made their second trade of the offseason, this time dealing with Toronto United in a move that shows two different draft philosophies at play.
The Trade
Detroit-Windsor Drive receive:
- Round 4, Pick 7 (10)
- Round 5, Pick 7 (18)
Toronto United receive:
- Round 3, Pick 6 (3)
- Round 6, Pick 6 (25)
What It Means
United are moving up, trading two mid-round picks to land at #3 in the third round. For a team that needs two female and one open player, but only one starter, this signals they’ve identified a target they believe will be drafted early and are willing to sacrifice their rotation depth picks to secure them.
The Drive, meanwhile, continue to reshape their draft portfolio. After receiving a package of three picks from the Lights, they’re now moving those picks to add more picks in rounds 4 and 5. With three open roster spots to fill, the Drive are betting on depth and multiple chances to find the right fits rather than banking on a single pick.
The draft-day puzzle continues to take shape.
